hi,there. I run vhp X64bit. I've downloaded and installed both 32bit and 64bit codec packages , but when I insert a dvd movie neither wmp or wmc are able to play it. What could be the problem ? is there anything else I must do after installing these packages that I don't know of ?

Hi Nick,

Welcome to the Forum.
Did you install the 32bit package first and the 64bit one in the Program Files x64 folder on C: ? Also, you should uninstall any other codecs before installing the Vista codec.

thanks for your reply, Martee. Yes, I installed the packages in that order and I am still experiencing that problem. You see, this is a new laptop I've got and I can't be sure whether it has any other codecs pre-installed so first thing I did was to download those two packs. Am I doing something and I am not aware of it ? Can you point me in a direction ? It's driving me crazy. By the way, I own a hp hdx-18 machine, if that helps.

What codec packs are you downloading? Can you post a link to them?

I recommend downloading THIS iv used it for years and never come across a video file i cant play.

That can be caused by not having the right codec installed. That pack you linked to says on it that it contains the bare minimum required. So its probably missing the ones you need
