Importing CD's into iTunes v.8 on Vista is way too slow

I have Vista Home 32bit and upgraded to iTunes 8. Since then, whenever I import a CD into my iTunes library, it can take 30 mins to an hour for one cd. This is an ongoing issue for everyone and there are a ton of threads on the Apple Discussion Forum about it. A few suggestions, but nothing solid that has any significant improvement. Appears Apple has yet to address the issue. Basically, on the old iTunes, it was an average 8-10x speed to import, but with iTunes 8 it's 2.2x at the most, and this seems to be specific to Vista OS's. Already out on Apple's forum, but thought I'd go out here in case anyone has come across anything.

Have you tried importing CD's through Windows Media Player? I ask this to see if the problem lays elsewhere.

I myself have not experienced this issue, and i'm using iTunes on Vista Ultimate x64.
