Upgrading OS

I thinking about upgrading my current 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64 bit Vista Ultimate. Is this possible to go form 32 to 64 bit.

Re: Upgrading OS

You will need to do a clean install , can't do an upgrade install to a different bit version.

Hope it helps

So I'll need to get the retail full version not the upgrade version. Then wipe my system clean by doing a reinstall of my OS, making it like the day I bought it and then load the 64 bit.

Re: Upgrading OS

Think you can pay the upgrade price and still get the 64 bit dvd.

Re: Upgrading OS

bassfisher6522 and SIW2 are correct, you need to do a clean install. Here's the text from Microsoft on the matter:

No. If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to another 64-bit version of Windows Vista.

If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you'll need to back up your files and then perform a custom installation of the 64-bit version of Windows Vista.

Here's a link to backup information, just in case: Methods for backing up your files - Windows Vista Help

Hope this helps.
