problem: repetitive startup

Hello, I am having a problem with media center. It repetitively starts up while im using other programs and also when I am not. It almost makes me think I have a virus that only causes media player to start up. I would like to remove media player from my computer but I hear this is not possible.

My specs are:

Intel Core Quad Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz
Windows Home Premium 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120
avast! Antivirus 4.8 home edition

Media Center simply starts up and the second I click the X to end the program it pops right back up again. Sometimes it waits awhile before it pops back up and sometimes it happens immediately. Sometimes it starts while my computer is just sitting idle and not being used. I dont want media center and I want to get it off my computer if anyone has some suggestions Id greatly appreciate it.

I'm having the same problem, and I understand many other are as well. So, is there a solution? I have a laptop and sure cant unplug my keyboard or would want to anyway to solve this problem. :sarc: I've read on some other sites that windows is working on this problem, it may be a registry issue, and something about 64bit processors yada yada. Gateway (my computer manufacturer) tells me they don’t have support for 22 character S/N laptops. So...seems hopeless. Thought about calling windows myself, but after reading about a $59.99 tech support charge, I said forget that! Please! Is there anyone out there that can help this issue? Its extremely annoying and aggravating. Thank You.
