| Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit | no compatible drives I am trying to make an audio CD. Using CDburnerXP however it isnt' recognizing my burner. I have a HP notebook dv7 vista 64. I had previous troubles trying to burn movies. I am afraid I may have deleted something I shouldn't have. Does anyone know how I can get the drive to become recognizable? Is there drivers I need to go back and download? thanks K. |

| Vista Ult 64bit Windows 7 64 bit Server 2008 RC2 | Re: no compatible drives Hello Kesha, Welcome to Vista Forums. Have you been able to burn anything with the software/device. If you put a CD or DVD in the burner, can you see it in Windows Explorer? Have you checked in device manager to see if the drive is listed. Rt. click on computer/manage/device manager. Click on the + next to CD/DVD rom drives then rt. click on the drive and select properties. It should say if the device driver is installed and whether the device is working. Make sure you have the latest driver for the device. You should be able to download from HP. Hope this helps. Please keep us posted. Gary |

| Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit | Re: no compatible drives Hi Gary, yes the drive is installed and the driver is up to date. I have once burned a song to disc successfully to check the drive. I had previous troubles (another thread in vista forums) using some avi to dvd software to burn some dvd's. With the info I received I have uninstalled the burning software that came with the laptop and downloaded some other stuff. In that forum Miles had suggested that the sftware that came with the laptop was locking the drive and that is why I was unable to burn the dvd using the cucusoft sfw I had. I have still been unable to do the dvd's but I haven't really tried on the laptop since that forum as my other computer worked fine with the info I was given. So now I am thinking maybe i deleted a needed sfw that was on the laptop or some setting just isnt right. I have tried the help in the cdburnerxp but that didn't work. I'm at a loss just not sure where to go from here. Maybe a different software would work. This laptop has just been so unpleasant to work with thus far. K |

| Vista Ult 64bit Windows 7 64 bit Server 2008 RC2 | Re: no compatible drives Trying different software may do the trick. Another thing that you might try is a system restore to a point before this problem started. Info here if needed: System Restore - How to Gary |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: no compatible drives You could try Burrrn. Even thought it's old it worked on my Vista 32 bit system. I have a feeling that Cyber whatever DVD burning sw is hassling things. Here's the Burrrn download link: Burrrn Freeware download and review - audio CD burner from SnapFiles btw, if it doesn't see your burner with the default settings, it has a "generic" mode that can sometimes overcome that problem. |

| Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit | Re: no compatible drives Thanks for all the info Gary and Miles. I did find a portion of cyberlink still installed, I did successfully uninstall that but still had troubles using CDburnerXP. I went to the forums there and found a script to run (works best apparently with HP) I ran the script and my drive was recognized, the CD burnt. I downloaded cucusoft avi to dvd last night since I did buy a legal copy of it I thought I should try again. I am going to try to download something tonight to try and burn tomorrow. I am hoping that with all the help I have recieved from these forums the problems may be finally over. I would never have been able to get this far without these forums, its a great help - Thank you ... K |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: no compatible drives btw, in case anyone is having trouble installing Burrrn on Vista64.. I think it has a 16 bit installer. Don't know if there's a portable version but if you are determined to use Burrrn you may have to install on a 32 bit system with one of those install monitors to see how to create a 32 bit install script or install manually. The program itself works fine on Vista 32 bit, so I'm guessing it should work on Vista64 if you can get it on there. |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: no compatible drives Turns out they do have a Burrrn portable. It comes up on Vista64 and recognizes my burner so it should be good to go: Download Portable Burrrn 1.14 Beta 2 - The portable version of the Burrrn audio cd burner - Softpedia Edit: just burned an audio CD and I'm listening to it now. Has support for .flac .ape and several other formats. I always liked Burrrn for doing audio CDs. Nice and simple. Last edited by MilesAhead; 05-21-2009 at 01:10 PM.. |
