Powerdvd Ultra no audio/playback freeze on startup

Anyone else notice this in regards to BD movies?

On saturday I "upgraded" my working 2217 build to build 2705/2815 then there is no audio, and the video freezes at movie startup.
I then reinstalled/restored build 2217, and still had a different issue: a message to update, or there would be no Blu-ray playback. The "update" opens up a IE window to download Build 2705. Of course the issue here was If I updated, then I had no audio and the video froze/crashed the player.

I figured out how to fix the issue, but I dont know what caused it. Its as if the Player will longer connect and update/authenticate the playback keys, Unless using a newer build, and those newer builds are non-functional/glitchy. I fixed the issue, and now Build 2217 plays all again, but had I not backed up the Cyberlink/Powerdvd folders I would be stuck with a non-functional player.

I suspect the older build upgrade/or no playback message is by design. They want to force updates on those using player builds that can read BD files off the drive, and that use AnyDVD to break the encryption.

I tried two Movies; BD Spiderwick and BD Hellboy II. Anybody else try to update their build and have a "no play/no sound issue with newer BD movies?

Anyone using PowerDVD Ultra for BD playback, try installing the newer builds and then try to play a June 2008 or newer release BD movie.
(just to be safe though, back up the Cyberlink folder, and Powerdvd programs folder for restoration if need be)

I'm having the same issue PowerDVD 7.3. However I have no idea where to locate the build number. It doesn't me anything other than 7.3 in the about of the program.

This problem starting happening for me with Vista SP2. Do you think it's just not compatible?

I'm having this problem with two different blu-ray discs.

Go into the C: drive (and Programs x86) and right click "powerdvd 7", or "Cyberlink" (whatever PDVD7U calls itself) folder , select Properties, use shadow copy to restore previous version (to when it worked). If you tried to reinstall the app, you overwrote the app updates.
All the automatic incremental player updates are in this folder.

For some reason Cyberlink does not do the incremental playback updates when a BD is inserted (I think they are trying to force updates to the newest build- which is glitchy)

All my BD's play fine now after restoring the 'PowerDVD8Ultra' folder.

to locate build, start PDVD, right click screen select "about"

I have the OEM version of PowerDVD and there's no Build number. Just 7.3.
It worked just fine before Vista Sp2.

Re: Powerdvd Ultra no audio/playback freeze on startup

I think you have 3319f

[edited]
I have powerdvd 7 ultra 4616a ( i have powerdvd 7 Ultra and 8 ultra versions)
I saved these because they enabled BD playback, and fixes (these actually fixed many issues regarding BD-Java , and the AACS keys-previously Cyberlink's keys were revoked and newer [2008] Fox, Sony releases, would not play at all (black screen, freeze and lockup of player. Build 4616 fixed this)

You need to update to 4616
You will not find these on Cyberlink anymore, and the newer builds are glitchy. These files are too big to upload here though.

[edit]
This is retail/download only will not work for OEM versions.
OEM were the worst. Slow for updates. Many who had the OEM would just outright buy the retail versions as the OEM version were useless for BD playback, and had many features disabled.

If you still cant get playback there are some other ways. (like AnyDVD HD, and you can try the Reloaded Addon- though i think it is a hybrid of 7 and 8)

Yeah, neither of those downloads/updates work. It still does the same thing with either update. It's kind of sad to think the OEM copy won't work anymore.
I really don't feel like I need to lay down $99 just for the software to play blu-rays.
