synctoy issues

I previously was running a western digital external HD with an xp toshiba laptop. when i used synctoy, the iles transfered and synced as normal. Then i upgraded to an hp laptop with vista 32 bit home premium, and now there are problems when i try to sync.
When trying to transfer from the HD to the laptop, out of 10,000 some odd files, only 16 files and 8 folders got transferred. Oddly enough, the read-only attribute magically appeared on the transfered files on the laptop, but the files are not read only on the HD. Can anyone spare some insight into why this issue is happening when i use vista? it doesnt happen with xp.

Here are the Specs on the HD and the new Laptop:

HD: Western Digital WDC WD50 00AAKS-00YGA0 USB Device
Laptop: HP Pavilion dv2000 Laptop Vista 32-bit Home Premium w/ SP1
4 gb of RAM with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5250 ~1.5 ghz

If you guys need anymore information, let me know. Its urgent i get this fixed asap, as i run my own business, and it is imperative i get the files on my new laptop asap. I cant use my old toshiba laptop, as there is an issue with the battery that causes random power shorts, rendering the laptop unusable for reliable use.
