WinRAR and OriginPro 8 issues

So, I have an issue with
1. WinRAR.
2. OriginPro 8

WinRAR
It just doesn't work!!!

Everytime I try to extract files it says : " No archives found" or that it cannot create folder .

I installed it all over again but it still doesn't work!

BTW I have MS Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1

OriginPro 8
Cannot open a file that is not in the folder that was created when the program was installed. Well, that wouldn't be a major problem if I could open that folder or, for that matter, if that folder really existed outsidse the program. Don't get it!

Anyway, if anyone has an idea on how to solve these problems I would be grateful if you shared...

Re: WinRAR and OriginPro 8 issues

Well, first let me say that I have NO knowledge of OriginPro 8, but I DO have knowledge and experience with compression programs.
Are you sure that you're dealing with a compressed file? What is the extension?
Rar, Zip, xyz.......what?

WinRAR, WinZIP, etc, have all bit the dust as far as I'm concerned.

Since my software guru put me on to "7Zip" several years ago, I've used nothing else.
And it's always free, without any nag boxes wanting me to buy it. Even through several upgrades, it's still 100% FREE.

Come on you OriginPro 8 experts, weigh in here!

Re: WinRAR and OriginPro 8 issues

laura369,

I use WinRAR (have for years) with Vista Home Premium 64Bit SP1 with no issues at all. I do have a registered version (as a matter of fact, I am using the latest beta right now) if that might make a difference...(it should not).

I never "invoke the program" but simply click (double click) on the archived file and WinRAR "self-starts" and opens a view that lets me see what is in the archive.

When I do archive files (rare in these days of giant hard drives), I have always placed copies of the files I want to archive in my C:\temp directory and point Win RAR to there.

I know this probably is not of much help, but perhaps if you try just double clicking on the archived (zipped) file, it might "self-start" for you...

My Best,

Michael

Extension is .rar so it definitely is a compressed file.

I'll try that 7zip program, thank you for the info btw, I hope it works!

First of all, thank you for replying.

About that "double clicking": it starts all right, but I have no use of that file after opening it. This is where winRAR and OriginPro 8 problems intercept. When I tryed to open a compressed .opj file (Origin graph, and it was sent to me to make some changes) I could work in it, change it or whatever but when I tryed to save that file (in a different folder, with a different name) it said "Cannot open file xy.opj for saving. File is in use or read only"

And what am I supposed to do now? Send that file to friends who still have Windows xp to extract it and send it back?!

I think I'll try that 7zip program.

But what if it doesn't work? Could it be a virus? Btw I have NOD32 and
Spybot SD and have found nothing while scanning the computer.... But still?!
My computer is kind of slow when running some programs (but should it be with 4 Gb of RAM?!) and there have been some disorders in sound when starting computer, also mouse pointer flickers occasionally...
