How do I make default the positioning of Windows?

For example, I like to reduce Firefox to use up two thirds of the monitor screen and workpad or another app to one third. Firefox had automatically set this setting of two thirds the width of my monitor screen when I double-click on the top bar. WordPad opens to be a 6 x 12 inch window in the middle of the screen.

Those programs should remember the size and placement. For an easy way to set a program's main window to a certain percentage of the screen size, see
RunAndPlace Utilities

On my downloads page. It's free.

It should work on any Windows 98 or later I think, but definitely XP or newer.

There was a program called "Grid" or something like that. I don't know if it works on Vista as it's been discontinued (still downloadable and free). It allows you to predefine "working areas" on your desktop so you have predefined spaces. It's specially usefull when you have multiple monitors.

Come to think of it, there's a program called Desktop Coral that you can download from http://www.DonatonCoder.com

I think the basic idea of DC is even if you maximize a program's main window, it will resize the window in order that the designated desktop area is not covered.

It's still being actively supported.
