System Tray Icons

Hi there everyone.

I seem to be having a problem with a 2 troublesome programs.

Advanced System Care Free 3.3.4 and Orbit Downloader 2.8.13 which are both the latest versions respectively.

I noticed this issue ever since I moved to Vista. Back in XP the two would simply run on startup with no flukes. This time, however, there are a few lapses. Let me explain.

1. Advanced System Care Free starts up most of the time but there are times that it just dosen't and the the tray icon is completely missing even when I start the application manually.

2. Orbit Downloader, no matter how many times I select the option for it to startup it simply refuses to do so.

Any suggestions?

Re: System Tray Icons

Hello Oreo,

Double check to see if the notification icon may be set as hidden somehow.

You might see if placing a shortcut for the program in the Start Menu Start Up folder may allow it to run at startup for you instead.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: System Tray Icons

Hi Shawn,

I've set my notifications never to hide ever since I first installed Vista.
I've tried placing Orbit Downloader in the startup folder before to no avail.

Advanced System Care Free is now starting normally no thanks to something I didn't do and I hope I don't encounter the issue again *wishes*

As for Orbit Downloader, while meddling with Advanced System Care Free I noticed that there is a startup manager in which I placed Orbit Downloader to start. Surprisingly this made Orbit startup everytime.

In my opinion there are really a lot of bugs in simultaneously using Windows Vista and a lot of applications. XP has some too but not quite as many as Vista. I'll be a happy guy when I get my copy of 7 .

Issue solved, thanks for the suggestions Shawn

P.S. I've also used one of your tutorials on how to clear the system tray of old icons. Sadly it didn't work. Oh well, that doesn't bother me at all.

Re: System Tray Icons

I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted.

If you meant from this tutorial, then it will not work unless the Explorer process is killed and restarted first, then restart the computer.

Re: System Tray Icons

Yes from that tutorial which i carefully followed and yes i killed and restarted the explorer process. Something really weird about my system probably. But anyway I don't need it that much. Thanks again for the help Shawn.
