Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

I just bought a new computer that has Vista Home Preium x64 on it and have loaded photoshop 7.0 on it twice but many of the components on photoshop 7.0 won't work. I use this for everything and am a website designer.
Can anyone tell me WHAT CAN I DO to resolve these issues and get it to work right on my new computer?
Thank you for your time!

Re: Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

Sorry I forgot... Also I am getting a message before adobe photoshop will load that says "You currently have Adobe Photoshops Primary Scratch and Window's primary paging file on the same volume which can result in reduced performance . Put adobe PS scratch volume on a different volume a physical drive??????"
Does anyone know where I fix this at? I have searched and searched for help and contacted adobe but they havent responded and my searches have gotten me no where.

Re: Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

Hi SweetLady,

Can you tell me exactly what errors/problems you're getting with PS7? I myself use Photoshop CS2 under Vista x64 without issue, but as you can see it's a later version.

My only suggestion to you is to either get a later version of Photoshop such as Photoshop CS4 which compatible with Vista x64, or switch back to the 32-bit version of Vista, especially if you find that a lot of your photo editing tools don't work under Vista x64.

I'm currently using Photoshop CS2 on Vista x64 without any problems, but I mainly just do basic photo editing and basic layering stuff so...

As for your scratch disks...Photoshop is basically telling you that you scratch disk is on the same drive as you operating system (C-Drive). Your scratch disk (cache files) allows for quicker access to files you offten open. If you have another (seperate) hard drive installed on your system you should try moving your scratch disk there as it does provide a slight performance gain.

To do this - In Photoshop, got to...
"Preferences"
"Plug-Ins & Scratch Disk" and choose a drive to put the catch files. If not just use the drive it's already on.

Hope this answers your question. And yeah, PHotoshop 7 does have issues with Vista x64

Re: Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

Hi Sygnus21,
Thank you for gettng back to me. What is happening in PHotoshop 7.0 is that I cant drag anything, like I cant' grab onto a project and move it in the screen at all.
I can't use the I can't use the rectangle marqee tool it gives me an error box
"warning no pixels are more than 50% selected. The selection edges will not be visible" Nor will the paint bucket tool work and I know there is more that is not working right.

The problem is I buy this new computer thinking it will help me with space, memory, speed etc and now I can't use any of my older software that I rely on daily. I can't afford to purchase all the new software like CS4 they want almost $700.00 for it.

This version of vista is what came on the computer when I purchased it and it was one they were dicontinuing. Do you think it would be wise to purchase either XP or Vista 32 bit since I have a intel core 2 quad and have no idea if XP or Vista 32 will be comaptible. Any ideas?

Thanks so much for your response. Any help is greatly appreciated. it is late here so I am heading to bed but will ck back here in the morning. Thank You.

Re: Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

If more than 4gig of memory is a concern to you than I would stick with Vista x64, otherwise I would move to a 32-bit OS with 4gig of memory total.

To be honest, most typical users don't really need more than 4gig of memory, and Vista or XP 32 runs just fine with the 4gig max memory.

In the end it'll come down to funds & 64-bit support. If you have a lot of programs that you depend on for your photo needs and they won't run in a 64-bit environment, than I'd go back to a 32-bit based OS.

When I decided to upgrade to Vista x64, I also decided to invest in 64-bit software/hardware where possible. It wasn't easy, but it was the choice I chose. Luckerly I already had CS 2 before my upgrade to Vista 64, so that helped. I also have a XP Os installed on my computer as well for when I need to use a program that doesn't work with Vista x64 so that helps as well.

Also be aware that you don't need to buy the full version of Adobe Photoshop CS4 for $700, you can get the upgrade for under $200 if you have CS, CS1, 2, or 3, or another qualifying product. Adobe Photoshop CS4: Upgrade details

Also, did you look at the upgrade info in this link? Windows Vista Compatibility Adobe Adobe Photoshop

Re: Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

Hi Sygnus21,
Thank you again for responding. My new system is Intel(R) Core(TM)2Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz Memory RAM 8.00 GB 64-bit Operating System, Will this allow me to use the Vista 32-bit?
Honestly, What would you do if it were your system? Do you like the CS2? Compared to 7.0?
I will go to the sites you gave me and see what I can find there.
Thank you again for taking the time to respond to me!

Re: Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

P.S. will the upgrade for CS4 work for adobe 7.0? After searching it looks like CS2 upgrade is more than CS4 price wise.

Re: Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

Since you already have 8gig of RAM installed on your system, then there's no need in downgrading your OS to a 32-bit system. If I were you I'd upgrade to Adobe CS 4. I alread sent you a link to amazon showing you an upgrade price of $159.00. I don't think you going to get a better deal and it is the latest version to support Vist x64!!!

In short I would go with Adobe CS4 upgrade.

Good luck.

Re: Photoshop 7.0 & Vista x64 HELP PLEASE

Hi again it's me back. This is so frustrating. I purchased the CS4 like you suggested and went to load it on my system when I got to the liscensing there was no place to upgrade from 7.0 so I called adobe and come to find out there is no patch or upgrade for 7.0 you have to purchase the full program for CS4. I now wish I wouldn't even have bought the new system because to many of my programs won't work.
YOu mentioned going back to the vista 32 but I never had vista 32 on this new system. Is there a way to override the vista 64 to the 32 without messing up the system and the ram etc?
I really need HELP! I have gotten so back logged with work because i can't use the programs I need. Thanks Again. Vi
