Mozilla rushes Firefox 3.5.1 to address serious vulnerability

Quote:
After yesterday's discovery of a serious security hole left open by Mozilla Firefox's new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine, the organization chose not to wait until next week -- as had been its plan on Tuesday -- to open up availability of its version 3.5.1 bug fix. Instead, the completed build showed up on Mozilla's FTP servers late Thursday morning, although access to that build through HTTP had been sporadic throughout the early afternoon.

Is the vulnerability specific to Firefox v3.5.1 [which as I understand is still in beta], or are versions such as mine [v3.0.11] also exposed?

Re: Mozilla rushes Firefox 3.5.1 to address serious vulnerability

Hi Tony,

no, it is specific to 3.5. 3.5.1 fixes the security issue. Which you can download from the link I gave there, but 3.5.1 is now on Mozillas site.

3.5 is no longer beta, as it went thru 3 RC builds already, and is final now. You should have gotten an update reminder from your 3.0.11 version, I believe. You can check with your v3.0.11 from the Help menu - Check for Updates, and it should offer the 3.5. If not, you can go to Mozilla and get it there.

Re: Mozilla rushes Firefox 3.5.1 to address serious vulnerability

Thanks Aaron,

I think that I was having a senior moment, as I now recall I did download Firefox v3.5 while it was still in one of the RC builds, but reverted to v3.0.11 because a number of my Add-ons were disabled by v3.5....'Real Player and Downloader' included.

I think that this situation still applies to some of the Add-ons that I use [there is a warning to that effect on the update page], so will wait-out until the appropriate updates and/or specification changes of the Add-ons are made for compatibility with v3.5, before I make the move.

Thanks and Cheers Mate. Tony

OK, you might also check the website's of your particular add ons, if they have one, as they might have a working version of their add on that works with 3.5. There's a chance they just haven't made it available outside of their website yet.
Firefox might just not pick that up yet checking itself for the add on update, the new updated working version of the add on, that is.

Re: Mozilla rushes Firefox 3.5.1 to address serious vulnerability

Hi Tony, try using the "nightly tester tools" add-on to overide the version compatability with your add-ons.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6543

Quite a few of my add-ons stopped working when going to 3.5, but using NTT all but two of my existing add-ons stayed working. With one of them I just found a replacement anyway.
