Installing mysql on Vista Home Premium 32 bit

Folks,

I am having trouble getting mysql 5.1 to start as a service on Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1. I am logged in as an Administrator. The instance config wizard fails at the point where it is attempting to start mysql as a Windows service. When I try to start bin/mysqld manually by using right-click and clicking on "Run as administrator" I get an error. Here are the details (I have installed mysql on XP, Linux and Mac and have had no problems). Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Some of the other forums indicate that you have to use ResourceHacker - is that indeed the only solution?)
