You Deleted Your Cookies? Think Again

Article - By Ryan Singel.

More than half of the internet’s top websites use a little known capability of Adobe’s Flash plugin to track users and store information about them, but only four of them mention the so-called Flash Cookies in their privacy policies, UC Berkeley researchers reported Monday.
Unlike traditional browser cookies, Flash cookies are relatively unknown to web users, and they are not controlled through the cookie privacy controls in a browser. That means even if a user thinks they have cleared their computer of tracking objects, they most likely have not.

Re: You Deleted Your Cookies? Think Again

Thanks for this tip! I did a quick "everything" search and found a handful of these .sol files, but all were dated today, likely because I'd rebooted, and run ccleaner earlier, and have firefox set to remove all temp/cookie data upon every exit. I went ahead and added the firefox browser plugin for additional security in the future.

If you use FireFox there's an AddOn called BetterPrivacy that you can set to auto delete these with or without prompting. I've been using it in Minefield(FF 3.6pre) for awhile. Doesn't seem to cause any problems that I can detect.
