Vista - fax and scan

can't send a fax, when sending a new fax message, get the status of fax as "inactive" while the program status is "ready for fax sending and reception"
This program worked satisfactorily few monthes ago. From this time I have been downloading some minor additionnal programs such as : slowPC fighter, registry mechanic, plus several windows and HP updates.

Hello Burtheret,

My guess is that the Registry Mechanic or the slowPC Fighter corrupted the registry or something. Perhaps one of the updates messed up your setting.
If you remember when did this happen you might try to use System Restore and back the Vista to the point the fax worked fine. You should have at least few of them.

Stop using registry cleaners. They do more harm than good.

I can only second that. If you used Registry Mechanic, you did it to yourself.

Well now that we've all scolded the OP for using registry cleaners, what's the nest solution?

Would removing it from Control Panel/Programs & Features/Uninstall a Programs/Turn Windows Features On & Off, reboot and then turn it back on be sufficient or would they have to do an sfc /scannow in an elevated CMD?
