Cannot access MS Money 2001 data

I cannot access my Microsoft Money 2001 version 9 UK data. This was running successfully on XP until the PC died. I have a new PC with Vista Home 32 bit and have installed Money 2001 successfully. however I cannot access the old data files. Money/Vista asks for a password (which I have never used) , it will not restore a back up, and I have tried to repair the files without sucess. I have installed demo versions of Money 08, and done pretty much everything I can find in forums etc.

No success.

Any fresh ideas please?

Or - f I get a different prduct (Quicken/GNUCash etc) will I be able to open the old file? I dont seem to be able to do much with it.

Getting desparate as 8 years of records at stake!
