    Re: Side-By-Side Configuration is Incorrect

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I have been struggling with this side-by-side error for days now!!! See below in the quote below from jhaglund's post... these are the only steps I did. After I did those steps and rebooted, MS Office worked again!!!

FYI: I, too, had problems running the sfc /scannow. It kept telling me I wasn't the administrator when I am the administrator and only user (I double checked in the control panel under User Accounts). So I rebooted, hit F8, started in safe mode with command prompt (so the C:\ prompt automatically came up), and I was able to run sfc /scannow successfully.

    Re: Side-By-Side Configuration is Incorrect

Hi, I am having same problem, every time I try to open my msn messenger I got this message: C:\Program Files (x86)
    Windows Live
Messenger\msnmsgr.exe and sayd: The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more details.
I am trying to scan with ParetoLogic PC Healh advisor, but I just got to this forum and looks to me very helpful, I also try to run as administrator but it show me the same message, Should I go to the files and delete it all and download all the programs you said? I also uninstall all the programs from window live message and re-installed again and its the same message. I will really appreciate any help from you guys, I need msn working tonight, I would be great for my husband to see his boys and chat for a little bit. Thank you.

@jhaglund's solutions are actually copied from my posts in this thread: side by side configuration

However, let me explain a bit more.

    f) Adobe

    f1) adobe acrobat reader
    f2) adobe flash player
    f3) adobe shockwave player

    g) http://www.java.com
He recommened the above. These won't help with the Side by Side problem. They are good general advice, but won't solve it.

The above is what solved the problem in all of your cases, but copied from my posts.

However, there is information missing. This is not the perfect tutorial. You can find better advice in my posts. I shall post the two most important posts:

This is where my posts come into play:

In theory at least, this problem can be corrected. There are two things that you must do.

    STEP ONE:

Right, please run steps 1, 2A, 3 (about 15 minutes), 4, 5, and then Step 1 from the top yellow box, but only follow this last one if Integrity Violations were found. Please upload the new sfcdetails.txt from your Desktop. System Files - SFC Command

    STEP TWO:

This step will be more helpful, but is more complex.

1: Get three different programs which all generate this error message lined up ready to run.

2: Open an elevated Command Prompt. Elevated Command Prompt

3: Type sxstrace trace -logfile:sxstrace.etl into the Command Prompt window, and press enter ONCE! Set it continue to log!

4: Start the first program. Let it generate the error message, and OK out of the error message. Once the program has closed, start the next program. Once this one has closed, start the last one. Make sure that all three generate an error. I need you to make absolutely sure that you do not run programs that work while logging!

5: Go back to the Command Prompt and press enter again to end the logging.

6: Type sxstrace parse -logfile:sxstrace.etl -outfile:%userprofile%\Desktop\sxstrace.txt and press enter.

Upload the file sxstrace.txt from your Desktop.

Please make sure to include both sfcdetails.txt, and sxstrace.txt in your next post.

    Thanks!

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "" on line . Re: Side-By-Side Configuration is Incorrect

I found this link on the Office 2010 support website. It fixed the error. I had tried the sxstrace.exe route only to get frustrated.

Anyway here is the link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=a5c84275-3b97-4ab7-a40d-3802b2af5fc2&displayLang=en
It will lead you to download the MS Visual C+++2008 SP1 pack. I just ran it and my Office stuff works fine now.

I don't understand this Forum either: I did not send that message. I don't have MS 2010: it is 2007.
I don't really understand how to read or answer these messages or what all these buttons mean: Quote, Multi etc. I'm sorry. I must be an idiot!
