Is tuneup utilities 2009 good?

I had a look at the 2008 version a while ago.

Not sure it did anything you can't do manually - or by using free tools :

Ccleaner is well liked

CCleaner - Home

as is GlaryUtilities

Glary Utilities

( watch during installation and untick the toolbar - assuming you don't want that bit - or get the no toolbar versions)

Tune Up Utilities is the best if you want to pay. Glary is the best if you don't want to pay. That simple. They are similar except Tune Up has recommendations which work if you read what they affect.

If you do use Glary's, uncheck the registry cleaner during the scan. Other than that its pretty useful.

Same with CCleaner, dont use the registry cleaner. I use CCleaner, its wonderful, just not the registry part of it lol

To be honest, I wouldn't use Glary's, or at least if you do, uncheck the registry cleaner during the scan. Other than that its pretty useful.

What's wrong with the registry cleaner? Even Norton 360 comes with a registry cleaner! Both have their own forms of backup too. You can check what glary will delete for your self anyway and Norton gives a similar report.

To be honest, I wouldn't use Glary's,

Why not? It has some very useful modules - the undelete is particularly good as is the Disk Analysis .

I've done a lot of research on registry cleaning / cleaners, and maybe it's just my system, but everytime I run one, everything acts funny. So I wasn't going to advise someone to use it when it makes my machine act funny.

Norton isn't all that great either... Everyone has their opinions, and I'm not looking to argue, simply stating that I won't recommend something to someone that has caused me grief.

@SIW2

Yes I know, I should have re worded that. I meant that I would use glary's for everything but the reg cleaner, I particularly like the file encryption option...

And your debating my advice when your posting similar material in other threads...

"Take care with registry cleaners - you can do more harm than good."

"It does have a registry clean module - less hazardous than most if you feel you Must use one - tho you may be better off not. The other modules work very well for me"

Nope - your original wording

To be honest, I wouldn't use Glary's, or at least if you do, uncheck the registry cleaner
implied you wouldn't use it at all - that is what I was asking about.

It is clearer now - thanks.

Fair enough, but if you have a registry backup with Erunt, then . . .

Correct, that is all I am stating. :)

Yes, I know, I edited my previous post lol

Erunt didn't work on my machine, it would error everytime I tried to use it, nor would it save the reg files in the folder it created. I'm not sure it is compatible with Vista yet. I know it says it is, but it didn't work, at all, for me.
