Ad-Aware Won't Work

Hello. I have a problem with my computer, and it won't let me run Ad-Aware. I already ran the system check to see it isn't a hardware problem. I have deleted all temp files, ran virus scans, etc., but the problem hasn't gone away. What's happening is that the computer is slowing down. If I click from one screen to another, some of its graphics will remain for a couple seconds (these seemed like indications to me of a bad processor, but apparently that's not the case.)

I know when I don't run Ad-Aware to remove multiple spyware software for a while, my computer slows down. But everytime I run Ad-Aware, it gets stuck (and not always on the same file.) I have already tried reinstalling Ad-Aware, but the problem remains.

What can I do?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. My system is Dell Inspiron 1420.

Re: Ad-Aware Won't Work

I suggest that you forget Ad Aware. There are better & more reliable products available these days IMHO.
As stated above SuperAntiSpyware is well worth consideration & has a free version.
Another good one that works quietly in the background is Spywareblaster. It also has a free version.
Links supplied for you to look at. Both run happily with Vista & each other.
BTW What Anti Virus are you using?

SpywareBlaster® | Prevent spyware and malware. Free download.

Re: Ad-Aware Won't Work

Thank you for your comments. I'll consider your suggestions.

I have discovered that Ad-Aware has encountered a problem with Norton Anti-Virus recently, and it's taking way too long to resolve, frankly.

Yes, Norton is my anti-virus program. Usually they work together without any trouble..

Re: Ad-Aware Won't Work

I have tried Spybot and Spyware Doctor in the past, and was not impressed. In Spybot's case, for several months it failed to detect a single problem. So, I removed it. I have also tried AVG, McAfee, Spysweeper, Zonealarm, CounterSpy, and others. All of them showed pathetic results. After running Ad-Aware, my computer would run like brand new! Simply put, no other software that I knew came close to matching its performance. But I will give SUPERAntispyware (Free Edition) the test...

QUICK SCAN- Much slower than Ad-Aware's Quick Scan, and it only found 3 items. After all this time without removing spyware, judging by past experience, Ad-Aware probably would have found 40-60+ problems in Quick Scan alone and fixed them. So, taken its time and results, I must say that I am disappointed so far (but not surprised.)

COMPLETE SCAN- This time I was more impressed! It was a lot faster than I expected, and it picked up 41 threats and removed them.

FINAL RESULT- My computer is certainly working a lot better now, but still not as well as it should. So there are still unresolved software problems with my computer.

In conclusion, I think SUPERAntispyware is pretty good. I would rate it at number 2, after Ad-Aware (for spyware removal.) Although I do not feel that it works as well as Ad-Aware, it seems to be pretty close. I would say that its Complete Scan is a must, as it didn't take much longer to run than Quick Scan and it found and fixed a lot more problems! I would definitely recommend this as an alternative to Ad-Aware, and I thank you guys for recommending it to me!

Peace.

Neuro.

Re: Ad-Aware Won't Work

What i have noticed now-a-days is that free antispyware programs like ad-aware and mbam doesnt seem to be working quietly with big anti virus programs like NIS2010, KIS2010 and F secure Internet Security 2010. My pc sometimes hung so badly that it cant even pull taskmgr and i had to do a hard restart. These products used to work well together before, not now.
