Vista - onecare

When is microsoft planning on releasing the free version of it's piad version of Windows live Onecare.

Onecare is discontinued. Although if you have a subscription for it, you wil have protection for the life of your subscription.

Microsoft Security Essentials (Morro) is what it is now, and the final version was already made available a few weeks ago.

Does one need to turn off or uninstall previous antivirus software before using security essentials. Can this software be run in conjuction with other anti virus software?

If you have another AV program installed, then you would want to uninstall it before you install MSE.

MSE will also automatically disable Windows Defender real time protection when you install it. Nothing to worry about, as MSE takes over for Windows Defender and then some.

Although you don't want to have another AV installed along with MSE, you can however have another Anti Spyware program installed along side it. Such as free manual scanners like Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot SD, etc without any problems usually, or the paid versions of these that offer Real Time Protection. Spybot SD has Real Time Protection that's free though.

What do you think of this software? Is it worth it or just keep using what I have. I have all the spyware that you mentioned, so no problems there and my anti virus is AVG 8.5. I going to give this a go for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

mmm, that's really up to you to decide on which to use, but if it was me, I would go with MSE over AVG. It has gotten pretty good reviews, and rates pretty high with protection. There is a lot more info on user reviews and such in the Security Forum at http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/
