| Vista Ultimate x64 | Vista Not allowing any software installation Hi all, I've done a quick search, but couldn't find anything of assistance. Basically, everything I try to install to my computer stalls at the start of the actual installation (I can select where I want the files to go and agree to t & c's etc). I bought the computer new about 3 months ago, I will have to find out the specs, I'm not too computer savvy. It's really p*ssing me off, as I can't install anything... On top of that, the CD/Bluray drive keeps asking me what it wants me to burn to any disc I put in it... Any help? Thanks in advance. W |

W can you type event viewer in search. go to the windows log, applications tab and look for errors (red "X" in left column) that relatee to app crash, app install failed, etc. there will be many. when you find one note the event ID, and source and let us know what it is Ken |

| Vista 32 win 7 7600 32 bit | Re: Vista Not allowing any software installation Wade It actually does help. event ID 8193 is the volume shadow service. whenever you install something the computer wants to make a restore point. If it cant it kills the install. You have two choices. first we can diagnose this. It might be a HD was moved or the path to the restore partition is bad. Or it can be that the VSS service became "unregistered" and cant complete. Second-- You (and I) can do a repair install, or if nec a re-install. Is there data on the HD that you need? Do you have the vista dvd to do a repair install? If I haven't already suggested it you can (and should) do a system file checker. type cmd in search>cmd>right click and run as admin> sfc /scannow. Let us know the results. If I dont get back to you feel free to PM me. Im working here and in win 7 and as you can imagine its a bit nuts today thanks Ken |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Vista Not allowing any software installation Hey Ken, There's just music and pictures I would have to back up, but I don't know how to set up my home network to transfer it to another computer (I don't have an external HD) I'm doing the scan as we speak. I'll PM you the results. I'm supposed to be getting an upgrade to 7 from the computer manufacturer but he's gone off the radar... Wade EDIT: Ken, The scan finished and said: Windows resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. I don't mind if I lose all the music, and photo's I have them backed up on CD's and other media. What's the next step mate? Regards, Wadeo Last edited by wadeo; 4 Weeks Ago at 06:59 PM..
