WMP Crashes With 3rd Party Devices

If you need more info please request.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm running Windows Media Player version 11.0.6002.18065. I have went back in forth with HP for the last few days over this issue with no resolution. They've even wanted me to delete WMP from my computer from the uninstall programs list, but it's not located there. I've also read that you can't because it is integrated with Windows operating system.

This is the problem:

When connecting a 3rd party device to my computer, such as a flash drive, mp3 player, even before it is synced with WMP, WMP will crash. If I try to sync the devices, WMP will crash. WMP will not respond or open while the device is hooked up.

If I try to play any files on the mp3 player or flash drive, WMP will start, play at best 2 secs of material, then crash.

The error message that it gives is
Windows Media Player has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

WMP will play my music fine, in my library without crashing and Cd's that I put in. It is only when a 3rd party device is in play, does the program give me problems. I don't know when the problem started but I know that these devices were able to sync before, and now they can't without WMP crashing.

I have all the current Windows Updates. I just recently had to get the Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and manually put it on the computer since it would always fail through Windows Update. This was suggested by a HP tech and it didn't help.

I'm a noob but I follow instructions very well. If anyone could please help me, I would be very thankful.
