Hry guys,
I've had this problem forever, I can't install WLM, latest version, ever since it's been Live. I can install the old versions though, á la 6.0

I'm on a Windows Vista Ultimate x64... And it also happens with some other programs such as Logitech Drivers, iTunes..
thanks

Hello i to am having the same problem, i cant install windows live messenger 9.0. I had 8.5 and tried to update it to no avail. Then i deleted 8.5 and tried installing 9.0 which also did not work. I get the same two error messages each time. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can muster.

It says :

"Could not access network location %APPDATA%\.

Please close all other open programs, and then try again. It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working. hr:0x80070643"

i tried messing around with the shell folders but nothing i did worked

I guess it has something to do with the Windows Installer Package to do.
I had the same problems as you and this is how I resolved it. I have to mention that I'm still using XP on this computer.

First I went to the website of Microsoft and found this download page where I could find this program: Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable
On the norwegian website I found this package:
WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe

Check out if you can find Windows Installer Package on your edition of Microsoft's website. If you're using Vista make sure that the package is meant for Vista.

When I made this installation I was able to install the latest MSN Messenger onto my computer. But then another problem started: I was not able to log in to MSN. I then found this solution on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbDaGly_kYY.
I followed it and it WORKED perfectly for me !!

Hey,
Thanks for your help, but my problem is that there's no version of Windows Installer 4.5 that fits my type of Service Pack, because there's non that are both 64-bit AND for Vista.

If anyone knows where I could find it it would be great also.

I found this one on the Microsoft website ( norwegian edition ) but I changed the language to english. If you follow this link It says that it should be compatible with Vista: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4

For Windows Vista, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008:
x86 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu
x64 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu
IA64 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-ia64.msu

If you scroll further down the same website you should see the download option of the '.msu' stated above ( in bold ).

Maybe you have already found this, but if not, I hope this would help you.

Hi Andreusito.

Try this link: Download details: Windows Installer 4.5
( maybe you'll have to change the language to english !! )

Scroll down to 'Instuctions' and you will find this:

For Windows Vista, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008:
x86 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.msu
x64 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-x64.msu
IA64 Platform: Windows6.0-KB942288-v2-ia64.msu

Scroll further down to 'Files in this download' and find the download button that correspond with the highligthed text above. It says it should be for Vista x64 Platform.

Hope this will help you. If not, I afraid that I'm out of clues on this one.

PS! I've already posted one answer for you, but the first time it wouldn't submit. If this is because of a delay on the internet you may have this answer twice. Sorry !

andreusito, I'm running the same system and having the same problem and getting the same error message. I've tried everything but nothing seems to be working. If you manage to figure it out, please post the answer here.

I have the same problem - running Windows Vista Home Premium - could not get into WLM without updating, but got an error 'Could not access network location %APPDATA%' I tried as both 'regular' user and administrator. So now I'm without WLM :-(( Hope someone can help soon please ... btw I also get the same message when I try to update my phone's software, although it worked until recently. I've changed nothing on my system.
