Double-click action

I have a an Excel Template (.xltx) that I use everyday, and somehow, the default double-click action was changed from New to Open. I can't seem to find a way to change the default double-click action. I know how to change the default program, but that's not the problem--it's opening in the correct program, just not with the correct action.

It only does this with Excel Templates--if I double-click a Word template, it does a New document.

Does anybody know how I can change this back?

Truthfully, I don't know, but after working with Office (mostly Word) for many years, here's some suggestions:

In Windows Explorer click on Tools, Folder Options, and on the opening screen (the General page), select the choice that gives you the double-click.

As a work-around, (until you find the real solution), you could set up a shortcut key to perform the New Document function. Just go to Start, All Programs, Office, right-click on Excel, Properties, Shortcut, Shortcut Key, and set up a shortcut key to give you a new Excel doc.

Also, what about putting a blank New Doc shortcut on your Desktop, so that you can always access your new doc that way?
