XP only program

I recently bought a laptop with VISTA. My software will not run on it. I have contacted the seller of the software and they do not plan to modify their software to run on any platform except XP. I did buy XP and install it on the laptop. My program does run, but many of the basic PC functions do not run properly. even the mouse pad and keyboard acts very erratic. It is driving me crazy!

I am ready to give up and buy a different laptop. When I look for one via Google, all I get are ones that run VISTA or 7. I would be willing to even buy a used PC. I need a reputable source. I need around 2GHZ and 3MB. All the basic functions PLUS XP. I am not a gamer. Any help out there?

Re: XP only program

does the software install ok? have you tried running it in compatibility mode? (this basically tricks the software into thinking its running on XP) I assume if this works the software vendor will have suggested it but its worth a shot

There is another possible option. In win 7 you can run in xp mode. Most if not all xp software will run in this mode.

Hope this helps

Yes, it installs just fine on an XP OS, but not on a VISTA OS. I don't know what compatibility mode is or how to force an install. BTW, I have XP on the laptop now and am very reluctant to change back to VISTA.

I finally tried to install the program using the compatibility mode. I get a message that this version of OS is not adequate for my program.
