| Vista Home Premium 32bit | DivX's Compatibility with Realplayer on Vista I notice that when I have these two downloaded, there seems to be a conflict and realplayer does not want to play some files and plays others, and it's not even due to file extensions because for instance I can play some avi files but not all. Why the heck is it doing this?! Windows reported that is had something to do with an XVID but I did not download this or anything, I downloaded DivX but then I thought they were the same thing but heard elsewhere they're not, so I am confused. It also fails utterly in helping by giving me a link to Xvid's main site saying there's an online support forum...which doesn't exist! I looked everywhere on that sorry excuse for a help site and there was no support forum there whatsoever. When Realplayer fails to play some of these files it says "realplayer stopped working" in the same manner IE used to say "IE stopped working" (and Internet Explorer "stops working" JUST if I close the browser!!) I'm not sure why ANY of these things are happening. For the past month I've been having way too many $*** with Vista and I am starting to get fed up with it. |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: DivX's Compatibility with Realplayer on Vista Well it seems issues likes to keep jumping all over the place...as I found out one solution I found numerous other problems with other videos. Turns out not all of them, happen to be playable in Realplayer (I guess that is normal...) However they are all playable in VLC (VideoLan) which is a video player that plays pretty much everything lol... However wierd is that, Realplayer, apparently will play SOME files among a certain type and not others, like it will play some AVI files but not all. This is what pops up when it can't play a file: ![]() So in other words, as long as I have the plugin, and the corresponing default video player (Quicktime, Windows Media Player, etc.) the file should play in Realplayer? Not sure what this means since again it will play some AVI files and not all, which makes me think it kinda has to do with another thing. The message (at the beginning which is not shown in the picture) is saying the file that cannot be played has an AUDIO FORMAT which isn't supported. Now it doesn't say what the format is, or how to figure this out, or how to figure out what codec it needs, or whatever. It is silent on these issues. I guess codecs are the same as video and/or sound file extensions like .au and .midi for sound, and .mov and .avi for video. I think I will just move on from this crap as it is nothing new - I've always remember trying to open up videos in certain programs and they won't open up, except in specific other video programs. VLC, although is the LEAST stylish happens to open 99% of them. |
