Hi

I know this is probably an old question that has been answered a million times, but I need help.... :(
For the last few years I have ben a very happy XP user. I got my new computer and am now using Vista. I purchased my Notebook 1 week ago. I can tell you my experience with Vista has not been good.

I bought Microsoft Word and tried to install,.......hmm.....cd/dvd player DOES NOT WORK......... Error (code 19). Now I have spent many hours trying to find a fix....unsuccessfully :(.

Now I am finding that any so called fix that is available, is going to cost me. wow I spent a lot of money on a brand new Notebook, and Microsoft Office, etc, why then should I have to now pay for a fix that by rights on a new computer, should not be there in the first place.

Please help. Vista is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth and I have only had it a week :(

Take it back to your retailer.

Hello Sharronlea,
Will the DVD/CD player work with any other type of DVD/CD ?. (music, film, game).
Also, can you go to your device manager and look there, to see if the device is listed, Right click, "Computer > Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives", is there a yellow triangle ?.
Let us know the results, good luck.

Hi and thanks Theong, I was hoping that I would not have to take it back to the retailer, but I am getting close to agreeing with you.

Hi Stoney-Nutz, Yes I have looked in my device manager and the cd/dvd drive is detected and listed. And no it does not work for any type of cd/dvd or game. I have tried to update the driver, but message advises that the driver is up to date....
I have checked my Computer c:/ and the only lists : F:/ removable, Norton back up drive and how much free space I have

:( Still Frustrated

Oh and I have already tried the Microsoft Support site. Used the Fix program and it failed to fix the problem as well.

I used the Automatic fix, not game enough to try the manual fix yet

There is one more thing you can look at, if your up for it.
Look in the bios, to see if it is being picked up by the motherboard, if it's not, then it is a fault with the PC and will have to go back to the shop.
When booting up press Delete, or what ever your lappy tells you to do to "enter setup/Bios".
Look at the first page and it will list all devices present.
If it's not there, then its back to the shop for sure, although, it's looking that way anyway.
You should only accept a replacement, not a repair as the PC is not fit for purpose.

Hi - back.

I checked the Bios and the Dvd/cd hardware is detected.

Hmmm - now what? Do you have any other suggestions?

Still Hopeful

My Computer

I would have to say that the DVD/CD drive is faulty.
It's in the BIOS, it's in the Device Manager, so it should work.
There is one more thing you could try, go to Device Manager, go to the DVD/CD-ROM device and un-install it, you can do this in properties, reboot and try it.
This will re-install the drivers.
Give it a go, but if it doesn't work, then it's back to the shop with it.

:D Hi Stoney

I FIXED IT :D

I finally gave in and instead of using the Microsoft Automatic Fix, I chose the manual fix.

It was as simple as following the instrutions and directions. All I had to do was to delete the Upper Filters!

Did this and now CD/DVD is working

Thank you for your advise and help.

I will be sure to use this site again.

Regards

Happy

Sharronlea :)
