Changing PowerPoint Application Defaults

I’m using a PowerPoint 2007 application for digital image competitions at my local camera club. I do not know PowerPoint, except to run this application, which was developed by others. It reads files to build a slide show.

There are a couple of default options that need changing with each execution. I’ve figured out how to change these settings, but I’d really like to just change the defaults.

1. Enable macros
2. Font size (filename that is displayed for winning slides).

Please give complete “click here; click there” instructions.

Thanks

For font size I can offer this solution:

Thanks for the very clear reply, but I can't even do the "1. Click Here" step because the "Font" area is greyed out. Is that because I'm working on a .ppt file?

As I said, I don't know PowerPoint. I'm sorry to ask such elementary questions. I don't even know enough to more clearly explain my problem.

This application is used by a number of camera clubs & no others, as far as I know, has the font size problem. The .ppt is the method of distribution, so I assumed the default fonts could be changed in the ppt.

If you go to the PP orb (top left) you will see a "Convert" option. That will convert it to .pptx and then you should be able to do what I suggested. When you are done, you can still save it as .ppt if that is required.

I still can’t get it to work. Converting changes to pptm . . . is that different from pptx? Anyway, now when I HOVER over the arrow (1. Click here) a dropdown window opens stating “Show the font dialog box”, but CLICKING does nothing. Tonight, the ppt reacts the same way as pptm. Last night I didn’t get the dropdown, but maybe I was just clicking too quickly (w/o hovering). Either way, I am still unable to enter the font info that I want. Does the fact that there are, at least, 2 other ppt files require that I will in the end need to save as ppt?

Another difference that I forgot to mention . . . in my application all font boxes are empty (no type, size, etc).

Little about this application seems “straight forward & logical” to me. Maybe I knew in the initial stages of investigating the application & later forgot, but there are 2 PowerPoint files with very, very similar names . . . “Photo Competition (macro).ppt” [starting point of the application] & “~Photo Competition (blank).ppt” [contains only 1 slide, which is the title slide]. That seems “dangerous” & an invitation for disaster. Last night I was using the (blank) file. Tonight I tried both, w/o success.

PowerPoint apparently doesn’t offer the “Save Changes [yes] [no] [cancel]” option when exiting, that almost all other software (that I've used) does. For instance, after converting & being unable to change fonts, I couldn’t cancel out & leave things as they originally were (pptm file). That’s scary to me; especially with my lack of knowledge & the similar file names . . . good thing I backed up before hand.
I’ve frequently been able to just “figure things out”, by trial & error, but not this.

OK let`s try something different. With your .ppt file, go to save as ( from the PP orb )and save the file as .pptx ( and don`t forget to define the output folder ). Then see whether you can apply the procedure I posted earlier.

OK, but before I try . . . I'm curious . . . I see "PowerPoint Macro-Enabled Presentation (*.pptm)" listed just under *.pptx in your last post. My application has macros. Does pptx disable/drop macros? Also, maybe a little further explanation will be helpful . . . I want my title slide font to remain as is. The fonts I'm trying to change is "extracted" from the filenames of the following slides (read during execution).

Maybe my method of changing those fonts (each time I run the app) will be helpful in showing exactly what I'm trying to do.
  • after "reading" the slides for the show
  • click Slide Master
  • click the very first thumbnail on left (before title slide)
  • highlight "click to edit master slide" (at bottom of large image on right)
  • highlight selected area
  • change font
  • click View @ top
  • click Normal
  • proceed with show
Hope that helps.

I STILL can't change the fonts. When I try on the .ppt file (that I double click to start) it won't let me save as .pptx (because it contains macros). When I try on the other .ppt file, I can save as pptx, but I still can't enter anything in the blank font box.

Looks like this is a lost cause . . . I guess I'll just have to change the fonts each time I build a competition run.

Thanks so much for your help.

I am a bit at a loss now too. Sorry we could not find a more elegant solution.
