Hi,
Is it possible to install Linux in and run it from a logical drive in an extended partition?
Thanks in advance,

The big thing would be to make sure the Linux distro understands Vista style NTFS partitions. You don't want the partition manager to corrupt what you have now.

For detailed info I would search on words; howto vista linux

usually the howtos have names like vista+linux or whatever, but I've been away from linux for a bit. They may not have kept up with the howtos. If all you can find is old info like XP and earlier, try the sites for particular distros. A good start may be Mandriva. If you have broadband the one-disc install is great. I used Mandrake in the past(now called Mandriva) and if you have broadband using a popular network card or ethernet chip set, it will recognized it and present you with a package selection program and download and install right away. Awesome.

But to answer your question even back in Slackware 3.0 days I believe you could install in a logical. You just needed a boot manager that would reflect into the boot manager in the Linux partition. IOW, when Vista boot manager loads Linux, it should actually load Grub or whatever boot manager you are using. That may have been updated too but you should have more options using Grub or another(such as booting various kernels if you compile custom kernels.)

Anyway, for the best info try usenet. There are tons of nntp newsgroups about Linux. Lots of sysadmin types there who know way more than I since they have prolly been doing Linux since the mid 90s.
