MS Office XP, re-configures at each log in.

I have an HP Pavilion with Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I am running SP 2 and have been running MS Office XP for the last year with no problems. Since ~ 15 Nov 09 I have noticed that when each of 4 users logs on to their profile, it goes through a configuring Office XP routine. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes to complete. I have gone to another forum and there are quite a few people who have had the same issue with Office XP and Office 2007. They've been told to go to programs and either repair or uninstall then re-install the program. I have done both with no success. The other suggestion was to use the windows install clean up tool and remove any programs no longer used. This had no effect either. I need the MS Outlook for my Simply accounting program for e-mailing to my accountant. Since Live mail does not work with Simply, I am forced to use Outlook and then set it as the default client.
I do find this to be quite annoying and though MS Office does work after the re-configure process, I may as well go have a coffee until it finishes.
Any suggestions?

I did try it and all was up to date. I have also tried re-installing in XP SP2 compatability mode but to no avail. I also tried to undo 4 office 07 updates going back to 11 Nov 09. It did nothing. The only noticeable difference is that it may be taking longer now to run through the routine.
