Trouble opening folders normally

Hello! I am having a problem opening folders on my PC. Anytime I double-click on a folder, it is automatically opened with Microsoft OneNote. This only began occurring within the past few months and I am unsure why. I can open these folders normally by right-clicking them and selecting the "Open" option, but this is cumbersome, especially since I used to be able to do that just by double-clicking the folder icon. Please help!

If you have Office 2007 you can permanently re-set Open With by right-clicking on the file you are trying to open, and from the Context Menu, select: Open With. Then select "Choose Default Program." MS Word is given as the primary option. And, be sure to check:"Always use the selected program to open this type of file."

In earlier versions of Office there are similar commands for Save As.

By the way, if, for any other doc, you wished to have some other program/app open it, you could click on: Browse, to select whatever program/app you wanted.

Thank you for the response, Imperfect1! Unfortunately, there is no "Open With" option available when I right-click the file. It's not that it's grayed out; it does not exist in the Context menu at all. Can you help me?

Yes, I think I can (with Brink's help ;)): Here are some of the suggestions from Vista Forum's Tutorials, and a couple of other sources:

First, from inside MS Word, click on the Windows logo button (top upper-left corner of screen) and select: Word Options (at the bottom of the screen). In the left-hand column, go to: Save, and then: Save documents. Under the heading, Save files in this format, from the drop-down menu, choose whichever format you want your Word docs saved as, i.e Word 2007 (.docx) or Word 97-2003 Document (.doc). Click: OK. Then, when you double-click on a Word doc in Windows Explorer, the file should open as a MS Word doc.

If that doesn't work, see if you can get the Open With command to show up in the Context Menu this way: In Windows Explorer, highlight the file and hold down the Shift Key as you Right-Click the files to get additional context menu options. "Open with" is usally one of those options. If it is, you can permanently select it by checking: Always save this type of file with this program.

If that doesn't work: Download this .reg file Open_With.reg. It restores the default Open With entries in the registry. Restart the computer afterwards. If you still do not see Open With when you right click on files, then download and install this file extension: Default File Type Associations - Restore.
