Yahoo and Vista

Not sure where this would go, so if it belongs some where else, please move it!

I primarily use Yahoo! to chat, but the thing of it is... when I maximize the screen, the border falls off the screen slightly - the name of the contact is half missing, the right and left lip on the window disappear and a large chunk of the bottom is eaten by my task bar.

When I load a conference, the same holds true as well, but so much of the left side falls off that the first letter of the first word I type in the message box disappears.

I know that my description might be a little hard to visualize, so I'm including a picture to show you what I mean. I will add a pic of the con when I get a chance.

What I want to know is this: is there a way to edit this so it fits on my screen better? I have a wide screen HP laptop.

Can you not resize the window so it fits your monitor better? What happens if you double click the top toolbar?

I guess I shouldve mentioned that. That IS when I double click the top toolbar.

And I know I could just leave it small and then expand it so that it fits my screen, but when I close it and reopen it later or get a message, it comes up smaller.

Actually, thats something else! Randomly, Vista resets YIM's windows so that they pop up (either when I get IMed or when I open an IM window) as a tiny square and I have to restretch it back to the size I want it to be.

So how do I fix that as well??

Try pressing F11 when its open and see if it fills the screen completely

If this doesnt work, I would have a look in the yahoo options menu and see if there is anything in there that will allow you to configure it.

Nope, there arent options like that in YIM preferences. And contacting Yahoo! is like trying to do home dental work - I've also had my fill of them, they're idiots over there. Which is why I was hoping to find help here.

But I really think part of my problem is Vista deciding to reset something - mostly when a new chat window suddenly becomes a square when not 5 minutes ago it was the size I had dragged it to be.

I have NEVER had this problem until Vista.

Pressing F11 does nothing.

hmmm odd. Not sure whats causing that. The reason I asked was because Iam under the impression yahoo/ yahoo messenger runs in explorer so i thought it should work.

Is this a new installation of Yahoo Messenger? I believe there may be an issue with one of the older versions and the window borders. Which version are you running? is it version 10?

Only the web version of YIM runs in IE - I have the downloaded/installed version.

Its version 10. The only versions available are I think 7 - 10, everything under 7 has been removed from Yahoo!'s system and is no longer supported.

I know that Yahoo! doesnt support Vista any more though... so that COULD be the issue too.

Doesnt sound like a vista issue at all. You could try a previous version to see if its still the same or try reinstalling version 10 again. I believe version 10 is the latest.

I'll lose everything if I go back to an old version (dont ask me why, but it deletes everything) and I know 10 is the most recent, I've used YIM since it first came out - more or less.

Okay...
If youve not changed anything else and only upgraded your YIM, it would indicate that its a problem with YIM 10, you might have to wait for a patch or update. I believe there is a beta version too. Anyone else you know using YIM who has similar problems to yours?

My computer is only a month old and I havent changed much of anything besides setting things the way I want them. YIM 10 has been on my computer since I first logged onto the internet on it, and its been doing it since I downloaded it.

Up until I got my new computer, I have been using XP and an old version of YIM - version 8 - because something in my old computer wouldnt allow me to update.

Still, I have never had this weird bug.

The version I have is the official release of 10, not the beta... thankfully. Last time I used a YIM beta, it was nothing but problems and that was on my old computer before it went weird and wouldnt let me update.

As far as any one else having this problem, dont know. Havent bothered to ask - I only IM a handful of people any more.

I dont like Vista - at all, it has too much of a mind of its own. Its constantly resetting EVERYTHING on it every few days/hours- from my icons (now fixed) to IE to Photoshop, so its not that huge of a leap for me to believe its doing the same thing to YIM. I will open something and it will be back to the default settings, and I know I didnt tell it to do that and I know there is nothing in the programs code to make it do that - I had the same version of IE on my XP computer that I have on this one and it never reset itself like its doing now. It has to be Vista doing something.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck with Vista until my upgrade kit arrives. *sigh*
