Anyone know of a good free IRC Client for Vista64?
mIRC with NNscript is what I've been reading. Also I've read that Opera's built in IRC chat client is a good one. Pidgin also integrates an IRC client. There are quite a few of them..
Thanks for the reply. It's been so long since I've done IRC that I forget everything. For now I'm using ChatZilla AddOn for Firefox browser. Seems to be working ok at this point. Only thing I would like is some indication of download speed. I just get the LED flicker. The download file is zero length until complete so I can't even judge the speed by eye.
I'm trying IceChat at the moment. Seems to install and run Ok on Vista64. I connected but haven't done any serious trial yet. A freebie:
IceChat IRC Client :: IRC Client Extra-Ordinaire :: The Chat Cool People Use
edit: just in case anyone is thinking of trying it, I used it a bit more extensively. I was connected for about 1/2 hour and everything worked as expected. Seems stable. No windows just went away when I clicked on things or anything else strange. Seems fine from what I can tell so far.

Moderator, I should really put this in Free Software For Vista thread since I didn't notice any dedicated IRC clients in the list. Would you do the honors?
Im new to IRC, how do you set-up an acct haha
BTW: I'm glad you found one thats nice. I believe mIRC is old, I could be wrong. There are a few I have in Linux like XChat, LostIRC, but never heard of Ice. Neato.
It must be at least 7 or 8 years since the last time I used it. You should ask somebody who knows what they are doing.
I never did either. I just googled. It seems like a nice app. Only thing is since mIRC was the app for so long, online help will likely consist of mIRC screen shots. But I doubt I'll be using it that much. It's good to have a Torrent and IRC client just in case the need arises. You never know.BTW: I'm glad you found one thats nice. Exactly. Most .iso now like linux distros or I believe Microsoft was hosting a SP2.iso for download. A torrent client would be beautiful for that reason. Much faster![]()
The download speed varies wildly by content on either mechanism in my experience. If your main interest is Thai films with German subtitles then you're likely to get much less bandwidth than if you are downloading the latest Windows beta. Unlike server-provided content where if you can find it, you can download at whatever the server and your own bandwidth allows.
I generally resort to those channels when I can't find it anywhere else. But just like these boards, some people like to hang out on those channels. I just never got into it that much.
