Need to install Vista ISO with USB on HP

OK, Here's the deal. My buddy brought his childs HP laptop (Pavilion dv-6) to me and needed a reinstall of the Vista Home premium 32 OS. I have the 3 recovery discs from HP to do this but upon trying to load them up I found that the DVD drive is just trashed and won't eject or anything. It isnt even showing up as a drive in "my computer". I informed my friend of this and he really would rather not put any more money into this (I had just replaced the LCD screen) and the boy isnt going to use this for anything other than a "Netbook" anyway.

So, that said, I have to figure out how to get the OS on this laptop without a DVD drive. I have "Ultra ISO" and from that made an ISO of the first disc but that ended up being 8.24 GB and I only have an 8 GB thumb drive I have seen alot of the tutorials on turning my flash drive into a bootable drive but now it seems that I cant get the OS ISO even on the drive. Can I do a .isz and compress the iso? do i also have to run a PE on the drive to create a virtual drive? Any suggestions or tutorials would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also in the boot order (BIOS) my options are USB Floppy, ATAPI CD/DVD ROM Drive, Notebook Hard Drive, USB Diskette on Key, Usb Hard Drive, !Network Adapter, I imagine i would set the usb diskette on key to no. 1 but im not sure of that. Help And Educate me please.
