Now that I have downloaded Paragon Backup and completed backup to My Books external hard drive I am stuck on stupid again.
When going to My Books EH and clicking on a specific file, in fact all files, it goes to Windows Cannot open this file and gives me two choices to use the web to find program to open or use a program listed on my computer to find the correct program to open it.
What is your recommendation?
I have previously down a backup from Vista Home Premium tp My Books EH and don't have any problem opening and viewing these back up files. What am I doing wrong?

I don't want to restore I just want to open the files that were transfered to My Books EH and see what each file has in it. I can't view the PBF files. I need the association/extension program to view it.

You can view and export files from a backup image. Use the File Transfer Wizard, or Volume Explorer from within Paragon.

To view the contents of a file , you need to export it first(copy it back).

Otherwise, you can mount the partition image ( you can't mount file/folder backups - that is different). Within Paragon, select the Archives tab, rt click the archive you wish to mount and mount it.

Vista Home Premium backup is only a file and folder backup app. There are plenty of free ones around. This is a popular one:

Free backup software for Windows - GFI Backup Home Edition

There is a completely different kind of backup. It is very important. That is a partition/disk Image backup.

The Paragon and Easeus you refer to are for Image backups.

Image backups are essential if your operating system gets badly infected, or corrupted, or you can't boot in , or the Hard drive fails.

You simply restore the image - either back to the same partition , or if the HD fails - get a new HD and restore the image to that.

In a few minutes you will be up and running with the operating system , all the updates, programs, settings , and any of your personal files and folders. Everything that was on the partition/drive will be restored exactly as it was at the time you made the image.

You can usually also ( as an added bonus ) find and copy back just individual files from the image , if you need to.

Generally, people make occasional Image backups - say once a month.

They do separate file/folder backups more often - once a week ( or perhaps every day if you are writing a novel ).

The reason for that is an image backup is a larger undertaking - you could do one every day, but most prefer to do an image occasionally , then also do selected file/folder backups more often - as it there is much less involved in just backing up a few files.

Thank you for this info. I am very careful on where I go and what I read and who is sending it so the chances of my comuter being seriously infected or corrupted are slim.
