excel07 poor performance

Hi all,
I have installed Vista in a 64bits server with 8Gb.
When running an excel 2007 s/s that takes about 5 min in a 2Gb Windows XP Laptop, it takes more than 11 mins.

I'm a bit dissapointed since I was expecting to get a much better execution time in the server, so I'm even wondering about going back and install XP.

Can anybody help me to improve this performance, please?
CPU % usage is around 25% so it seems it could run faster but I don't know how tell teh system to use a higher CPU % usage.

Thanks in advance
Cheers

Since its a server, the processor's resource's are probably set to manage background tasks instead of programs. My server ( An old HP Notebook ) takes 22 minutes just to open Internet Explorer. But then again I have it running my website and most of the processes are background processes. The CPU is at about 80% all the time from managing my website..

If you want to change the allocation of CPU time ( NOT RECOMMENDED IF YOU'RE RUNNING A WEBSITE ) You can do it by going to Start > Right-Click "Computer" > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Performance > Advanced > Processor Scheduling > Either Background or Programs.

Be careful now..

Hi Timmah,
thanks for your answer.

I have this parameter set up as "Programs" and I'm running a Website in that server that is working fine so far. Do you think I should change it to "Background processes"?

Regarding the excel performance issue my feeling is that it could run faster since the CPU usage is never higher than 30%, but I don't know how to say the server "..c'mon, use some more of your resources for this..." :)

Regards

I've had mine on Background processes simply because I have programs running in the background ( Only show up in Task Manager ) which handle the traffic to my website.. I manage them from Apache Terminal.

I'm really not sure why Excel takes so long to come up. Does this happen with other MS Office programs as well?

I don't recommend changing Processor Scheduling.
