How should I install Nero 8 Ultra Edition

I've read a lot about problems installing Nero 8 in Windows Vista. I've recently purchased this software and would like to be certain that it will install with no problems. Some people say to disable User Account Control before installing it, as well as disabling the firewall and Windows Defender.
Can anyone tell me what should be done before running the installation of Nero?
Thanks.

Welcome Dave,

It appears that you are right, there are conflicts with Vista and Nero. I found this page, in which one poster shows how he solved the problem
CAUTION: Nero 8 problem with Vista - Tech Support Guy Forums

I must admit that I am not familiar with Nero, but I have installed many programs. Some precautions that you may want to take include:

Prior to the install do a maintenance on the computer, defrag, disc cleanup, delete temp folders etc.

I think the most important thing you may try that is not mentioned too often, is to correct any corruption that may be in your OS.

Go to search type cmd (do not hit enter), run as administrator. In cmd type sfc /scannow. This will give you a report of any corruption that is found and try to correct it. If errors are found run the sfc 3 times.

Follow these steps and you will be enjoying Nero.

Take care and good luck

I think that you will be ok

Thanks for the advice. I'll take all the precautions you suggest before installing the program. I guess I won't do a custom install, which I was planning to do, according to the advice in the link you sent.
I'm really grateful for you taking the time to help.

Hi, just for your information really but I have installed Nero 8 full retail (not ultra though) on 2 Vista boxes with no issues whatsoever.

I only upgraded from 6 as there were (expected) issues with trying that on Vista.

My research indicated that Nero 9 was the problem child - can't remember to much griping over 8. Given the difference in price (and little in the way of functionality) going for 8 was an easy decision.

Cheers

Hi (again),

just read the link that RichC posted earlier (should have done that first...) anyhow I did a custom install and have done two manual updates (ie downloaded & ran the whole update install file) since with no issues.

On a 2nd machine I did the same but on the 2nd update went from a limited to a full suite of applications again with no issues.

I'm sure it'll be fine....(gulp!)

I installed the Nero 8 Ultra Version on my computer (Vista 32, home premium) and took the precautions as suggested by Richard. The installation went fine. The various components are slow to open, however, which is probably because of Vista. I did come across one problem with Nero SoundTrax, which I hope someone can solve. If I run the program to convert and LP to CD, but instead of burning it to a CD I save the conversion as the default npf file so I can open it at another time in SoundTrax and do more editing with Wave Editor by double-clicking on each track in SoundTrax, the SoundTrax program opens but doesn't insert the wav file. Thus the only way I can edit the wav file is to open it with Wave Editor.
This never happened with the Nero 6 version I have on a computer running XP Pro. I could click on the npf file and everything would open in SoundTrax and I could edit one side of the LP at a time by clicking on each track and it would open in Wave Editor.
I thought I would try to update Nero 8 to version 8.3.13.0a from within the Nero program. It informed me that it would have to uninstall the version I have first, then restart and carry on with the update. After restarting, however, the update failed and the previous version of Nero was no longer on my computer.
I ran the General Clean Tool and reinstalled the version I have.
Will I run into problems if I manually download the update version and then try to install that? Or should I just ignore the problem with SoundTrax, it's just a minor inconvenience, but annoying all the same?
Any advice would be appreciated. I guess I'm wondering if the update will solve problems or just cause more problems to occur.
