I tried to install "InCD" v4.07 on a vista Laptop to make the DVD-RW to write & delete files like I did on my XP desktop but, Vista will not accept this InCD.

Is there an InCD or equivalent to put on Vista?

thanx ..........nick

I did Nero in the past. My recommendation would be to avoid InCD. You can use rw CDs and DVDs but it's much more reliable to just write and finalize the disc at once as if it was a CDR.

iow, if you want to add some data to what's already on, copy to an empty folder, add the stuff you want added to the CD, to the empty folder. Do a quick erase of the CD in Imgburn. Use the folder as the root of a data CD using Imgburn.

Even with that I've found +rw discs not reliable. Even trying to read back on the same machine a few months later the thing may not read. I tried using them for backups and regretted it. Now I only use them for test burns. Like if I'm not sure a DVD will come out right, I'll burn on +rw, play in the stand-alone, then burn a DVDR if the erasable played on the stand-alone as it should.

I still have a couple of "big floppy" type erasable dics lying around I can't read with anything. Think of it as writing stuff on those magic slates where you lift the cover sheet and all your writing is gone!!

Thanx Miles

For years I had a sneeky feeling that that's what was happening with me with Rs & RWs.

But just for the record, in desperation to fix my seemingly busted drives DesktopXP after using some DVD-R:-
"Sony 1x-16x compatible 4.7 / 120min DVD Recordable / Enregistrable"

I downloaded the free InCD 6.6.5.100 & lo & behold it formated those unusable before DVD-Rs & you drag into them files which become instantly readable, without the need to "write these files", & also they delete instantly just like the floppys do.

I am flabergasted after so much trouble I went to with that staff.

How long they will last is another matter. ..........nick

I'd get all the data onto something stable. It seems fine while it's working is all I can tell you. Maybe it's been improved(my last foray into Nero was 6 Ultimate) but the nature of it I trust less than 3 1/2" floppies. :)

edit: sorry for being preachy but I'm still pissed I lost some source code using the InCD thingy.

Thanks anyway, & you are right I thing. ......nick

Glad you got your data though. That's the main thing. I had a USB key die on me. But I was lucky enough it gave me one last copy to HD before it expired. I got my files off. :)
