Hello Vista Forums
Seeking feedback re ERUNT.
My System Restore runs default and I'll usually run regedit before any unsure activity. I also run an image backup weekly. I've been thinking about an app I haven't run for years ~ ERUNT. Wondering if Forum members run/use ERUNT. I have recently come across a thread in another Forum offering that the only way to create / save / restore a complete registry backup is with an app like ERUNT. The author comments that Vista System Restore may be problematic and regedit does not save a complete reg backup. This author's comments got me thinking...is SysRestore too iffy and / or does regedit really create /save / restore a complete reg backup.
Some Boot CDs come with ERDNT configured to restore if you can't boot the HD. But there's some stuff about drive letter shuffle so read the Readme in depth. You might want to translate the instructions to something more concise you can understand when your system is not booting and keep a print out in a drawer with the Boot CD.
Hi MilesAhead
thanks for your reply...
Is saving app to default OK...will it run from SafeMode...Run > or do I use SafeMode w CmdPmpt. (what is cmd to run)
As to comments from other Forum > [..]the only way to create / save / restore a complete registry backup is with an app like ERUNT. Vista System Restore may be problematic and regedit does not save a complete reg backup. Any thoughts?
When I got my Vista box..I forgot about ERUNT because I heard Vista UAC was problem for ERUNT. Any thoughts?
I can't tell you what is or is not a hassle with UAC because I disable it. I could never figure out how to save a useful backup with Regedit. Maybe you can but I can't.
I rarely run ERUNT manaully. As I noted, I have it run automatically at startup. I do use the Restore Point .vbs script you should be able to find in the Tutorial section or google. It just pops up a dialog so you can make a restore point with a comment attached. Just saves opening the Windows dialogs.
Also I use Sandboxie rather than a bunch of av apps. I do occasional scans but I rely on Sandboxie to keep stuff from sneaking in through the browser.
If you read the ERUNT readme, it covers just about every possible usage.
It is kind of thick reading... but your answers should be in there.
