Having problems running some programs and installing new ones

I used norton antivirus a few days ago to do a virus check and it found a few problems all of which were resolved. It asked me to do a reset so i did and when i logged back on no programs would work, i restarted again and the same thing happened. Everytime i double clicked on a program it would ask me to select what to open the program with.

A while later i found that if i right click and select 'run as administrator', the program would load normally the same as you would expect it to. However, when i try and install anything or updates nothing happens, i cannot load any sort of installer screen, and it usually comes up with a small box asking what i want to run it with. I have tired to install a computer game, on a disc, and it loads up but when i click on the install button the program gives nothing happens.

I have checked the permission settings and the compatibility of the programs and there is no problems with that, so i think there may be a problem with the registry or something judging by other threads on this forum.

Any help would be much appreciated

Can you do a system restore back to before you ran Norton?

Your system is corrupted with the virus. I think, Norton is not working. Uninstall it and install Kaspersky antivirus and then do a complete scan of your system. Remove all the detected threats.
