Avi Files in Quicktime

I have a massive amount of .avi movies that I have cataloged in iTunes by creating .mov files for each and editing the metadata. I tried installing Divx without success and a couple other no name codec downloads. I don't want to use another media player because I already have them all cataloged in iTunes and I don't want to convert all the movies to another format. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Have you tried the K-lite codec pack?

Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 6.3.0 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 6.3.0 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 6.3.0 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools

Downloaded and installed K-Lite codec with no success. The Divx, Xvid, and K-Lite Codecs were able to produce sound but no video in Quicktime.

On my Mac OSX the installation of Divx was able to produce results, but not on my Vista.

I installed gspot and it indicates that the proper codecs are installed. Quicktime is up to date and I tried reinstalling with no success.

That has completely stumped me, you have tried what I was about to suggest. Can you try this then please:

SFC Scan:

1. Open the start menu
2. In the search box, type cmd
3. Right click on command prompt and select Run as administrator
4. In command prompt, type:

sfc /scannow

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but w
as unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

C:\Windows\system32>

I tried to access the CBS log but it says that access is denied.
I ran findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt but it didnt work

Are you the only administrator? If you are, can you try those steps in safe mode. If you aren't then we'll try a different approach.
