So i am trying to upgrade to iTunes 10 from the 9.1 or similar. Every time I try it says older version of bonjour could not be removed. Click ok to continue. Then it says that the installer was interrupted before it could finish any ideas?
Thanks
Jack

Here is how to remove Bonjour in this situation. It is imperative that you follow these instructions, so that you do not break your Internet. If this does not work, come back here, and under no circumstances do anything yourself. :)

Download and run Turn off Bonjour: http://download.gizmoproject.com/jasmine/TurnOffBonjour.exe

Restart your computer.

Delete the folder: C:\Program Files\Bonjour

I am not sure if you meant it. I would that you did not. But there is a virus in the file. So maybe you should do some of your malware removal stuff and get rid of it

I am so sorry! I promise that I did not mean to! What was it to do with? Au Revoir used to be a tool to remove Bonjour. You can see proof of that here: Remove Windows Bonjour (mdnsresponder.EXE) with Bonjour Au revoir

I have replaced the link with another tool. Which program picked up the virus? Do you think that it has infected? Would you like any help to make sure that you are not infected? Here is the Virus Total report: VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner

I can see that there is something there. I think it may be just suspicious modification to the file system, but I am not sure. I have replaced the link anyhow.

It does not seem completely like a normal infection in that the .exe serves its function, and worked on my computer.

Will give that file a though analysis now, and see what it comes out with.

If you could please follow these steps to make sure that your PC is disinfected:

Again, I am so, so sorry.

Richard

STEP ONE:

tfc_icon.png
TFC (Temp File Cleaner) - Download here or here - Homepage
Why? This will remove unneeded temporary files from your system, make automated scans that follow run faster, and save you time. Many infections also load from a temporary file location.
  • Download TFC to your desktop, or other location.
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
  • If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.
Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It shouldn't take longer take a couple of minutes, and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.

STEP TWO:

mbam.png
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware a.k.a. MBAM - Download Free Version (freeware) - Homepage
Why? Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is very good at removing the zlob trojan, virtumonde, and most other current infections. This single tool has replaced multiple tools that have been required in the past.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, confirm a check mark is placed next to the following:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. The rogue application should now be gone.
When completed, a log will open in Notepad. If you need to create a new topic, please paste this log with it.

Note: Some infections will prevent MBAM from running. If MBAM won't run, try renaming the file mbam-setup.exe to a random name, and then try again.

Curious. Again, I am really, really sorry for what I have done. I have just run MBAM on my computer (and I did just run that (dodgy?) program) and nothing was picked up. I think I am clean, but more importantly is whether you are clean. I hope everything is alright at your end.

That is excellent news! I am so sorry that I caused all this in the first place. Hopefully the new link will solve the original problem!

I am really glad that everything has been fixed. Thank you so much for the +rep, although I am not sure that I deserve it after making such a mess.
