Solved WMC problems

i'm running vista ultimate 64bit on an amd system. i have an ati 5770 card and a tv wonder hd650 tuner card.
they've worked together wonderfully for months and they just now stopped cooperating.
when i start WMC i click on live tv and it plays for, at most, 20 seconds then freezes and restarts. if i change the channel it freezes immediately. if i watch pre recorded tv it does the same and freezes after 10 seconds or so. i've also tried watching random music videos i've had on my copmuter for years and they will play about 1 minute in and freeze.

i've also tried the unthinkable. i've tried catalyst media center. at first it was giving me an error when i clicked on the "TV" tab. but now it seems to be working just fine. i used to use CMC but i got tired of the lag in the program. WMC is much much faster and actually gets a better picture quiality.

any ideas?

p.s. i also downloaded Splash light avchd player and game booster last night. is there any way either of these things could affect it?

Hi,

I don't know what has caused your issue. Your spec states 32 vista & this question is based on 64 bit.

I would ask what is your update process for Vista 32 SP? or is it 64 SP? & your software updates in general.

Where are we really?

To go any further we need more information: -

System manufacturer, model, windows version & SP update etc. what happened & why?

Hi,

Llook here for the latest drivers for your graphics card: -

AMD Support Search

If this is your card, look here for the latest drivers for your TV card: -

ATI TV Wonder

Try them & see what happens. Report back if this does not sort it out with more details on what you currently have. That is software & driver versions etc.

I did both downloads and neither worked. :\ although thank you for the links

i'm going to try a system restore point to a few days ago when it was working.

Update: did a restore point to the 2nd (3 days ago) when it was properly functioning.
the restore did not help. still has the same symptoms.

i should also mention that CMC is going back and forth between working and not working. one day it says "tuner function not available" and the next day it works and back and forth.

is it time for a new tuner card?

Hi,

It is unlikely to be the software working & then not, on & off. So unless you can think of something else I would go with that thought.
