Nero Illegal disk???? Help

Here's my nero report log, I just bought some dvd blanks & they're not working. Am using my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 burner, it takes abit of time to recognise the blank (which is unusual) then i only have 2 options of burn speed 3x & 4x yet i normally burn at 6x & 8x & the blanks are 8x. When try 2burn at 4x its trues to format the blank then ejects it saying illegal disk?? Please help!

Tried looking around couldn't find a solution. Was hoping some1 could look through my log and see if its a fault i can sort out. Already asked a couple of mates & they say its the blanks, apparently got a bad pack (bad media) or something... only problem is they're a spindle tab of 50... if worse comes 2 worse, will take them back and exchange for another type of blanks (if they allow to, bought them 2days ago & still have receipt)... fingers crossed!

Ps: The very 1st blank burnt nicely, went through the rest no joy :cry:

Did some research found something to do with firmware, updated my drivers still no hope... please help

Welcome to the forum,

This could be a bad batch of disc's, I have a batch myself that just don't want to burn, that being said have you tried with another burning software like The Official ImgBurn Website at the slowest speed?

I don't use Nero so my help is limited there, I'm sure someone will come along that does, a google search of that comes up quite a few times and this has been suggested a few times to check your drive and the disc's

Looked at the log & I can't see much other than "Buffer under-run" statements.

Do you have "Buffer under-run" active?

Edit: -

Try difference versions of UDF (1.02 revision selected) when you format the disk to see if one type is compatible with these disks.

They are being reported as having 4 layers?

Hiya, thanks for the help. I tried using nero tools but that didn't help, (kept showing incorrect info/results) I don't think it the software as the problem is with the actual burner, its like its having a hard time recognising/reading the blank (makes noise aswel)... when it eventually does, still can't burn, nero tries to format disk (i have never had 2format a blank before burning unless it was those rewrittable 1s which i hardly use as thy're unreliable quality wise)

I think the buffer under-run's active
Will try diff versions of UDF and update...
They're normal dvd +r 4.7 gb blanks

Hi,

Looking at the log the DMA is off for your CD/DVD drive?

To activate it follow these instructions: -

Windows Vista:

Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
In the left pane, click the plus sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers to expand it.
For each icon that has the word Channel as part of its label, right-click the icon, and then click Properties.
Click the Advanced Settings tab, and then, under Device Properties, select the Enable DMA check box.
Click OK

Hiya, did as you asked found 3 channels, 2 of them already had DMA enabled but third 1 doesen't even have the option to enable

Unfortunately it only show standard compatibility formats. We need to know exactly what media you have purchased.

I am sorry to say that not drives are compatible with all types of media (CD, DVD even Bluray).

Ok am starting to think its the blanks, or the burner isen't recognising them correctly... I've just tried to get info on them and the blank info doesen't make sense, dvd +RW (they're dvd+R), free space: unknown or using diff prog over 30000mb!, manufacturer: unknown etc strange...

But how comes it managed to burn the very 1st blank without a problem?? Don't get it...

Which of the three devices you state you have has DMA activated & what is the other one?

Sometimes drives are not always compatible with all DVD media as they are produced from different matterials & processes.
