It may be wise to set update on notify and then you can install. This way you have control over what is installed in the computer.
Personally, I install myself, ocassionally hide updates that I do not want installed, and install only a few at a time. Some have experienced problems setting update to automatic and having all installed at once.

Why would you be offered Office 2007 updates while you are running 2010 ?

Do you have a 2007 version still in your system, and is the 2010 version a " trial " variety ?

No I dont have 2007 components on my system and the 2010 version is complete version. i installed Service pack one yesterday, thats why i was a bit concerned looking a both 2007 and 2010 updates at the same time.

anyway I've hidden it for the moment. Thanks for the help ilikefree, and thanks for putting up the tuturial, i learned a lot from that also.

Cheers

Steps that I did not notice on the guide include:

Running a scan disc before doing a defrag

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner about once every two months. Untick any registry entries.

If you follow these instructions, you will be trouble free for a long time to come.

Be sure to back up your hard drive about once a month (varies by user) and to keeep system restore points up to date.
