Save and restore folder view settings

Something I made after I lost my folder view settings again

Hi everyone

After months of struggling with the problem of the folder view settings in Vista,
I found the solution in this forum,
suggested by Shawn aka Brink, a guy whom I greatly admire and respect.
Unfortunately, it did not last.
After the installation of software for a product of D-Link, all my settings were gone.
Running the Registry tweak again (which brought the solution), did not solve it.
Nothing seemed to help to get my folder view settings back.
Neither a Restore Point or a Registry backup could repair the damage.
All my Folder view settings were gone after every reboot of my PC.
Well, I had enough of Vista's unwillingness to remember folder view settings.
The solution I found, was to export the Bags (from the Registry),
in which the folder view settings are stored,
converting them to an executable, and to place them in the Startup folder.
In this way the settings are written to the Registry after logging on to the desktop.
The only drawback is, that after each new folder view settings that you create,
you need to export a new Registry file, convert it to an EXE,
and place it in the startup folder (after removing the previous one).
For me, still better than to set back manually more than one hundred folder view settings, after booting.
I've created two tools to export the Bags from the Registry, with the current date in the filename.
One is for Vista ( exports to desktop ), the other for XP ( exports to C:\ ).
You can download them below.
If the tools do not work properly,
I would appreciate it if you want to report this.

Thank you
Sweet

Well done Sweet on making another excellent tool! I would rep you, but I just did so for your last tool

As much as I'd like to help you out, I don't want to test a Vista registry tool on Windows 7 :(
