Any tweaking utilities applicable for vista?

Hi there. I was a previous windows7 user, switched to vista because a.)I own a legal copy, b.)I was encountering problems with windows 7.

problem I had encountered was gpu (hd6570) related, whenever the default native resolution of my monitor is set at 1440x900, lines/distortions would appear on the screen. on my old gpu (9400gt) no problems have been encountered. To make matters worse the distortions would only frequently appear on the desktop, not in games, but later on it affected my gameplay. People at sevenforums Encountering this on a newly reformatted windows 7 PC. - Page 2 - Windows 7 Forums
suggested that it might be software-related, so I uninstalled comodo, the catalyst drivers, tuneup utilities, I also did a reformat but the problem continued to persist.
I tried Vista, same problem also persisted. as a last resort lowering the resolution to 1280x720,etc, or 1366x768, significantly reduced the appearing lines, if not totally removed them,, but as of now I'm still observing them.

Thanks to that problem I encountered, I found out that programs like TuneUp Utilities are causing problems with Windows 7.. Do they as well cause problems with Windows Vista?

any safe, recommendable programs? right now, I'm using security essentials, and the default firewall as my security..

    Welcome
I will not make many comments about the tune up software, other than in the opinion of many this is the way to go, its easy and we are here to help.

Running a scan disc before doing a defrag

Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes.

Making System Restore points, at least once a week

Makaing a system Image once a month (varies by user)

Not relying on your A/V common sense, should prevail. You know of many sites can cause a problem.

Do not use any reg cleaning or optimizing software.

Download and use Ccleaner about once every two months. Untick any registry entries.

Thanks. I have installed ccleaner, and Malwarebytes. with Malwarebytes, am I to go with the free version? because it might conflict when I purchase the full version, since it runs in real time.

Another question, with Tuneup Utilities I used to get free space by disabling hibernation, removing old images and restore points. How do I do this without a tweaking utility?

    Thanks.

With CC cleaner you can remove the old restore points. They do get deleted, when more room is needed for the new points, however.

    Hibernation:
    Hibernation - Enable or Disable

Not sure what you mean by old images, but with ccleaner and disc cleanup, most unnecessary files etc will be deleted
    Disk Cleanup

Yes, go with the Free version of Malwarebytes, that is the one that I have, too.
