After installing Java Version 7 Update 4 I found that Java 6 31 (the last update) was still installed. Don't Java updates uninstall older versions now or do I need 6 31 still?

If Java 6 updates were uninstalling or pasting over previous versions of 6 then I'll conclude that Version 7 left Version 6 untouched because the two are distinct.
