    Disk management Window Vista Home

I have disk Partitions as C,D,E and F with capacities of 18.63 GB each. I have run out of space on partition 'C' the Primary drive. I wish to extend its volume by poaching on drive 'D' which has 99% free space while other 2 have 85% free space.
By right clicking on drive 'C' in Disk Management screen, the drop down menu shows "extend volume, shrink volume, delete volume etc. Unfortunately 'extend volume' and 'delete volume' cannot be clicked as they are disabled. How can I enable them to perform the required operations for the task.

First you need to create some space to be able to extend the C: partition.
You cannot delete the partition from which you are booting.

What is actually in the D: partition?
Your best option would be to delete the D: partition (assuming it's the one immediately behind the C: partition on the drive), after moviing the data to the E: (or F: ) partition - and then extend the C: partition into the space created.
If you still require the D: partition for some reason, you can then recreate it, and put the data back in

D: partition is empty. It housed only inconsequential files which were moved to F: partition. I can certainly 'delete' partition D: , but I dont have any idea if this partition is contiguous to / back of C: and whether C: will get all its deleted volume.

You can see the physical disk layout in the Administrative Tools Disk Managment Console... diskmgmt.msc

Assuming the C: partition is first (possibly after a very small System Reserved partition), then if the D: drive is next, and empty, you can simply delete it completely, and expand the C: partition into the space created.

    Dear Mr. NoelDP,

Partition D: has been deleted. The 'Expand Volume' in the drop down list (after right clicking partition C: on the diskmgmt screen) is disabled and cannot be clicked. The 'expand volume' feature was disabled even earlier (3 days ago) when I had opened the screen last.

It's a good idea to post a screen shot so we can see the information directly.
