i have a list of names in column A and another list of those same names in column B
I set column B to reference column A. so it isnt just a copy of the names but a formula
ie. Column A has "John Smith" and column B is "=A1"
the next name in column A is "Jane Doe" and column B is "=A2"
etc....
I want it so that if i drag a name from column A to a new column C, the name in column B remains a reference to column A. I find that when I set it up the way I explained, if i drag from A to C, the formula in B changes so it references column C. I want it to remain in A and either show a 0 or a blank spot, since that is what is now in A
ie. Column A has "John Smith" and column B is "=A1"
I drag "John Smith" to column C
I want column B to still say "=A1"
But instead it changes to where I dragged "John Smith" and becomes "=C1"
I have tried making the formula "=$A$1" but it still changes to where I drag it
anyone know how to solve this problem? any help would be appreciated
